The acquisition of a new digitally controlled hydraulic copy lathe capable of turning wood blanks up to 480mm diameter by 3.4 metres long makes the reproduction of large load-bearing columns and one piece large diameter turns possible.
The key benefits to you are that we can use an AutoCad file (yours or ours) to produce a template that will accurately copy the specified entasis and design detail, which can then be loaded to the lathe and reproduced exactly. It is considerably faster and more accurate than hand turning and is therefore cheaper and quicker to produce.
Columns can be produced in any timber including oak or pine and then laminated to form a solid single piece or made from staves to form a column with a hollow core. In each case these are then lifted with an electric hoist to the lathe and turned.
The finished product is supplied sanded to a 220 grit finish for staining and polishing for internal applications or 180 grit finish for decorating and external applications.
